Buil y Giné, D.O. Priorat

Established in 1996, Buil y Giné are a long-term Priorat wine family, with holdings dating back more than 50 years. As such, they can be considered ‘second wave’ Priorat, behind the initial wave led by Alvaro Palacios in 1989. Buil y Giné have holdings in Priorat, adjacent Montsant, and also in Toro. For now, we introduce their wines via ‘Gine Giné’ a very pure, authentic and delightful Priorat Garnacha and Samsó blend, under screwcap. Buil y Giné’s holdings are roughly 50% old vine (more than 40 years) Samsó from the Cims or hilltops of Priorat, and 50% is younger plantings (20 years or less) of Garnacha.

Smells smoky with roasted meat, spicy ashy earthy, bonfired herbs, and mineral freshness. The attractive earthy-animale nose translates to a palate where fresh, crunchy and minerally dance happily with deeper leathery, rustic, earthy and meaty elements. Delicious, unmistakably Priorat/Garnacha, outrageous value.
