Traslanzas, D.O Cigales

Traslanzas is produced by Tribal Wines, a wine venture for a small group of oenological friends. Tribal Wines was developed with the aim of producing and selling wines with unique characters in terms of their quality and typicity. Traslanzas is a relatively new project, but from very old vines grown in the Cigales D.O.

The Traslanzas vineyard is about ½ hour north of Valladolid, the wine centre town of Castille. Valladolid, is surrounded by 4 important regions, each one a half-hour away: west to Toro; south to Rueda, east to Ribera del Duero, and Cigales, as mentioned, to the north. Madrid's less than 2 hours south. These regions are relatively similar in terms of high altitude (between 650-850 metres above sea level), poor soils, low rainfall, and some amazing old bushvine material to work with.

Meat, briar, carob-huskiness, vanilla’n’red berry skins all scattered over the smell of the poor grey soil of Cigales. Silky fruit tannin and glycerol meld perfectly, there’s a mineral tickle in there and finely judged secondary oak is politely included. A mild-mannered wine of graceful carriage and lovely detail.
