Tribal Wines, D.O Toro

D.O. Toro is a valley running south from the town of Toro. Richer alluvial soils than the poor sand profile of neighbouring Rueda, Cigales and Ribera del Duero, and just slightly warmer. Wines here tend to be pretty powerful. With the region becoming popular for its ability to produce fructose, many over-sexed, highly priced 'Parkery' brutes are emerging. These, however, combine generosity with balance and drinkability.

Tribal Wines is a wine venture for a small group of oenological friends (the tribe: Ana Martín, Jose Hidalgoand the owner-producers of Anima Negra), developed with the aim of producing and selling wines withunique characters in terms of their quality and typicity. The 'Toro de Lidia' is the specific breed of bull forSpain’s bullfights, and they are the direct descendents of the ancient Aurochs, the giant progenitor of domesticated cattle – what better name for a wine from Toro?!

The ‘Toro de Lidia’ is the breed of bull for Spain’s bullfights, and they are the direct descendents of the ancient Aurochs, the giant progenitor of domesticated cattle – what better name for a wine from Toro?! Regionally typical with dark fruit, full tannin, some fine minerality and ‘garrigue’-like dried herb/flower character.
